Children Thrive in Familes
We believe that God created families so children can experience His love and learn to love others. Children without families are at a much higher risk of becoming victims of violence, trafficking, and exploitation. Therefore, we’ve embraced a family-centered model of care so that children grow up in stable loving families with caregivers that protect them and help them become their best selves. Furthermore, we incorporate the Family Strengthening approach across all our programs. This approach emphasizes first making sure that parents and caregivers have the resources they need to be great parents.

Reunification + Foster Care
Most children placed in orphanages have parents or kin that love and want to take care of them but lack the resources to do so. We don’t believe that families should be separated due to these barriers. When kids are placed in our care, our goal is to keep them with biological family or place in foster families that we identify and train in partnership with local churches. All families receive specialized services that includes family engagement, parent training, job and business creation, frequent visits with families and our social workers, as well as covering education and medical fees.
Family Homes
Though reunification is ideal, it is not possible for every child. When children are abandoned, neglected, or otherwise unsafe with their biological families and foster care is not an option, children are welcomed into our family homes at Kay Anj Village. Children grow up in loving families with Christian parents that have been trained in Trauma Informed Care.
Transitional Care
Legally, in Haiti, once a child is 18 they can no longer be in a family home setting. However, when these kids age out they typically end up living on the street. When our first group of kids became of age we refused to let that happen to them. Instead, we created a program to help transition them into independent living. Every young adult in this program has an individualized plan curated to their gifts, talents, and dreams. These plans include education, life skills training, business development, and job placement.
OUR FAMILY STRENGTHENING EFFORTS ARE WORKING!
Angeline is one of seven children. Her mother, Rezilia, placed her with children’s services because her husband died, and she could not afford to take care of all her children. Her small business of selling water was barely enough to feed one child, let alone seven. Despite not having a lot of money for necessities including transportation, Rezilia visited Angeline in our family homes every chance she could. We believe that poverty should never be a reason for a family to be separated. Through our Family Strengthening program, Rezilia was trained in child and business development and found a job that allowed her to bring Angeline home and care for her and six other children. Today, Angeline is 16 years old, gets straight A’s in all her classes, and couldn’t be happier to be home with her mom and siblings.
“Angeline is my youngest and I put her in the orphanage so she’d have more opportunity. Things aren’t always easy, but I’m so happy to have her back and thank you to HHA because now she can live with me and her siblings.”
